The Wildcat Activity Center located at Mechanicsburg Area High School’s campus came through the development of a facility study in 2016-2017 that determined the need for expansion of elementary education and extracurricular opportunities within the school district. To meet the district’s extracurricular opportunities, the new Wildcat Activity Center will increase the number of high school gymnasiums from two to four serving athletics, music and performing arts. The facility will be open to not just students but for scheduling within Mechanicsburg robust youth and community programs year round.
The building is located directly adjacent to athletic fields and band practice area for quick access and support for storage, restrooms and concessions. Roof overhangs protect the exterior of the building, provide shelter for students utilizing the fields around the entire perimeter of the building and aid in sun control of windows naturally daylighting the entire facility.
Sound panels in addition to the perforated paneling, further enhance sound quality within the building and work to scale the large gym spaces and tie into the school colors, with the lower gymnasium accessories including wall pads and bleachers for student instruction picking up on the maroon school colors. Structure both interior and exterior is painted black, which will require minimal painting over the life of the building.
Mechanicsburg Area School District is excited to expand their student and community opportunities in 2019, expanding tradition, pride and excellence with the school district.
