The Senator John J. Shumaker Public Safety Center, located along the Capital Area Greenbelt at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus, is a premier Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement training Center. Dedicated in 2000, the center offers Police Academy training and continuing education along with Civilian Firearms training and Security training. The program was outgrowing its facilities and it became evident that expanded program spaces were needed. Through master planning the site, Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates developed a plan, to be completed over phases, to expand program space and update current training facilities. Phase one included the new construction of the Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola Law Enforcement complex with provides administrative and teaching spaces as well as a 15 lane pistol shooting range and a 10 lane rifle shooting range. Phase one also included repairs to the existing fire training grounds and apparatus, upgrades to the existing North Hall to provide program space for Fire and EMS plus a Campus Green which includes outdoor physical training space.
