The Capital Area Intermediate Unit serves and provides program for the public and non-public educational communities in South Central PA. As a hub for services to these member schools including curriculum, technology, special education and staff development, there was a need for the modernization of all publicly used spaces within the headquarters building located in Enola, PA.
CRA led a feasibility study process with Intermediate Unit stakeholders to establish the vision for the future of the Intermediate Unit’s main headquarters building and develop a facility upgrade plan to meet that vision within set budget parameters. The resulting construction project completely transforms the lobbies and conference spaces within the building. The main lobby is reconfigured with new security systems implemented to create a safer main entry. The reconfigured conference suites provide both large rooms and a series of small breakout rooms adjacent. All conference suites are enriched with technology and collaboration is enhanced with floor to ceiling markerboard walls. The middle lobby space is upgraded to include a new kiosk area which will be used to host visitors and as a retail teaching tool for students. New finish concepts emphasizing the Capital Area Intermediate Unit brand identity are implemented throughout the new spaces with the use of the logo and bold colors which are balanced through the space with a natural wood tone—a feature wall in the main lobby graphically depicts the organizational mission.
