Swatara Township Fire Company Station No. 1

Harrisburg, PA

Two community volunteer fire companies merge in this new facility to address the growing needs of Swatara Township and facilitate the future development of a full time professional fire company.

The durable, cost-effective design incorporates integrated building controls, improved reaction time and modern vehicle exhaust. The existing building was renovated to include offices, training rooms and living quarters. The addition consists of six day lit drive through apparatus bays, dispatch center and a forty-foot tall training tower.

Challenges during development included doubling the size of the station within a dense town fabric. The final site includes street relocation and underground storm water retention that allows direct vehicular street access.
