State College Area School District embarked on a comprehensive assessment of their elementary school facilities to evaluate options to possibly consolidate schools and engage the community to discuss how best to transform these facilities into 21st Century Learning Environments. The Master Plan concluded the best path forward was to modernize two schools and build a new elementary school to replace the current Houserville Elementary School.

Corl Street Elementary School is an existing neighborhood school with 14 classrooms and limited support spaces therefor the design modernized the facility and expanded the building to accommodate kindergarten through 5th grade which is approximately 400 students. The project adds educational space including small group instruction, learning support and flexible small and individual learning areas.
