Cumberland County Courthouse – Historic Restoration

Carlisle, PA

Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates renovated and restored the Cumberland County Courthouse, originally constructed in 1845. The process began with a historic structures review which included the identification of the historically significant components of the Greek Revival Style building, full review and documentation of the existing conditions of the entire interior and exterior of the facility and a plan for the restoration and renovation of the courthouse to enable its continued use by Cumberland County. The firm restored the exteriors and main spaces within the building to their 1845 and 1870 appearances while integrating all new data wiring systems to facilitate modern county office functions. Interior work included complete replacement of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and the repair of ornamental plaster, woodwork and flooring throughout the building. An exterior ramp and elevator were added to allow for handicap accessibility.
