Frederick Community College – Laboratory Building Renovation/Addition
The new addition to Building “C”, located at the south entrance to campus, contains expanded laboratory facilities for the college’s microbiology, anatomy & physiology, physics & physical science, biology, chemistry, and general science departments.
The addition connects to the existing structure with a three story, light infused atrium space that provides a prominent presence of entry for the south side of campus. On the interior, a variety of gathering spaces are situated along the length of the atrium to encourage social interaction, student/teacher collaboration, and casual learning environments.
Each floor level incorporates a student commons area as the main organizational component. These commons are surrounded by teaching & research labs, preparatory rooms, lecture halls, and faculty offices. This organization allows opportunities for natural daylight to enter each perimeter space, while also fostering a sense of community and collaboration between each department.
