Larry J. Macaluso Elementary

Red Lion, PA

As a result of our completed feasibility study and the anticipated population growth, Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates was hired to design a completely new facility for the Red Lion Area School District. Larry J. Macaluso is the District’s ninth elementary school. The District purchased land based on the geographic area of anticipated population growth and the new K- 6 facility has the capacity to house 1,400 students. The new, two-level masonry structure has program spaces which include: General Classrooms, Special Education Classrooms, Art Room, Music Classroom, Computer lab, Media Center, Gymnasium, Full-Service Kitchen, and Cafeteria. The stage is open to both the gymnasium and cafeteria. The gymnasium has a PIAA regulation basketball and volleyball court. The kindergarten wing has a separate drop off to avoid traffic congestion with school buses. The public use wing (cafeteria, gymnasium and music department) has a separate entrance for after-hours events. The entryways into the school are designated by yellow doors and window frames contained within accent planes of glazed blue brick.
