Rite Aid Distribution Center – Lancaster, CA
The Rite Aid Distribution Center facility consists of a 910,000 SF distribution facility, 70,000 SF of offices and a data center to monitor inventory distribution to the Western Coast Rite Aid stores. Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates worked closely with the construction management firm Whiting-Turner to complete the project on an extremely tight schedule, moving from the design phase to start of construction in less than three months.
The main warehousing area includes specialty storage areas for chocolate, aerosol cans and oil. The design complies with FDA requirements for temperature and security in the pharmaceutical section. The project also includes a vehicle maintenance shelter, a remote guard station to control site access and a fueling island.
The data center allows for immediate replenishment of inventory through a control system that provides statistical data to Rite Aid on lead times, shipping times, replenishment, etc. The system runs directly from the store computer banks and automatically handles the ordering of replenishment inventory.
The building has a structural steel frame with insulated tilt-up concrete wall panels. The roofing system is a mechanically-attached membrane system on wood deck. The exterior facade of the office wing combines split-face masonry, an aluminum storefront system and an exterior insulation and finish system. The 90-acre site is situated in the uniquely-zoned Foxfield Industrial Park in Lancaster, CA.
